How to Reset a PS3 from HDMI to Normal

After certain situations, such as power outages, moving or changing television sets, you may want to reset your Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) from its high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) to its standard-definition, or normal, setting. Despite how broken your PS3 appears, you do not need a new console. Resetting the device is actually quite simple.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your PS3. The PS3 cannot be reset, or reverted, from HDMI mode to standard-definition mode if its power is switched to the on position. Give your console about 30 seconds to cool down.

    • 2

Hold down the power switch at the front of the PS3 for five to 10 seconds or until you hear the double beep -- whichever occurs first.

    • 3

Plug the three-pronged red, white and yellow cord that was included in your PS3's original packaging into your PS3. Connect the other end of the cord to your television

    • 4

Switch the input settings on your television from HDMI to AV1 or AV2. Afterward, your PS3 will display standard-definition images again.
