How to Plug HDMI Into My PS3

HDMI, or high-definition multimedia interface, is an uncompressed audio/video format for high-definition (HD) devices such as the PlayStation 3 (PS3) and high-definition TVs (HDTVs). Although the PS3 supports other connection types, HDMI provides the best audio and video quality, uses only one cable and is the easiest to set up. You can use any standard HDMI cable. All versions of the PS3 (slim or original) support HDMI.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the PS3 off and disconnect any previous video connection (such as component or composite).

    • 2

Insert the HDMI cable into the "HDMI" port on the back of the PS3. It is labeled and easily identifiable. Insert the other end of the HDMI cable into the "HDMI" port on the HDTV (always on the back or on the side).

    • 3

Use the HDTV remote to change the video display mode to "HDMI." You may also be able to do it on the TV itself. Turn the PS3 on. The PS3 logo appears and the PS3 automatically detects the HDMI cable. Select "Yes" when asked to use the HDMI connection. Select "Yes" when asked to use the most optimal settings for the TV. Select "Yes" to accept the settings, and press the "X" button to save the settings.
