How to Get Sixaxis to Sync to a PlayStation 3

The PlayStation 3 is capable of wireless control through the Sixaxis controller. Every time you purchase a new controller, you will have to synchronize it to your PlayStation 3. This includes the first time you boot up your PS3. This synchronization will allow you to turn the PS3 on remotely using the Sixaxis controller.

Instructions

  Touch the "Power" button located on the front of your PlayStation to turn it on. It is located beneath the slot-loading disk drive.

  Connect the Sixaxis controller to the USB port on the front of the PlayStation using the USB cable provided with your PS3. The USB cable is a common A-to-B style USB cable with one large plug and one small one. Plug the small end into the controller and the large end into the PS3.

  Press the "PS" button on the controller. This is the large clear button with the PlayStation logo located in the center of the controller. The "PS" button acts as a power button for the controller. The four LED lights atop the controller will flash, indicating that the controller is seeking a PS3 to sync to. The indicator lights will stop flashing and one will stay solid once the sync is complete.

  Disconnect the controller from the USB cable if you want to play wirelessly. Your controller can now power on the unit by pressing the "PS" button. Leave the USB cable plugged into the controller to recharge the battery. Battery power levels can be checked by pressing the "PS" button while the PlayStation is already on.
