How to Install Fedora on a PS3

There are many operating systems that can be found on the Internet; some are free and some are available for purchase. Windows and Mac operating systems are the two most common operating systems, but Linux Fedora has become a viable option. Linux Fedora is a free operating system that you can use on any computer. In addition to using it on your computer, you can also install the operating system on to your PlayStation 3. This will make part of your PlayStation 3 act similar to a computer.

  • PS3 Linux add-on disc
  • USB mouse and keyboard
  • PS3 Fedora disc

      Connect your wireless keyboard and mouse to your PlayStation 3 by inserting the USB into the USB slot on your PS3.

      Turn on your PS3 and wait for the dashboard to load up. Select the "Hard Drive" option from the dashboard and select "Format Hard Drive." This will free up space for you to install the operating system. If you wish to keep some of your save files, export them to an external USB device before formatting the hard drive.

      Insert the PS3 Linux add-on disc into the disc drive on your PS3.

      Select the "System Settings option on the dashboard and choose "Install other OS." Click on "Default System" and change the settings to "Other OS."

      Remove the Linux disc from the disc drive and insert the Fedora installation disc. Restart the PS3. Use the USB keyboard to type in "install-fc sda." when you see the Fedora installation screen.

      Click on "Full Install" when you are asked to choose what type of installation you would like. Remove the Fedora disc and reinsert the Linux disc. Press "Y" on the keyboard to complete the installation process.
