How to Get HDMI Sound From a PS3?

Sony's PlayStation 3 has the capability to produce eight channels of Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound. Having this ability makes playing PS3 games and watching Blu-ray movies even better. PS3 consoles do not come with an HDMI cable included in the box, so if you want high-definition audio and video on your system, you will have to purchase and install an HDMI cable. Most electronics and game stores carry HDMI cables made for the PS3.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your PS3 console and unplug the AC cord from the wall outlet.

    • 2

Cut off the power to your television.

    • 3

Place one end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on your television. Normally, the HDMI port is located on the back or side of your television.

    • 4

Locate the HMDI Out port on the back of your PS3. Connect the other end of your HDMI cable into the HDMI Out port on your PS3.

    • 5

Plug your PS3 back into the power outlet and turn it back on.

    • 6

Plug in your television and turn it on. A message will display asking if you want to output your video and audio with HDMI. Choose "Yes" and press the X button on the PS3 controller.

    • 7

Select "Yes" and press X on the controller again when you are asked if you want it to switch to optimal setting.

    • 8

Accept the settings, with a "Yes," and click the X one more time.
