How to Repair Your PS3 HDD

The PlayStation 3 has a built-in recovery utility that can be used to repair your internal hard disk drive if problems develop. This utility is accessible through the main dashboard menu system on the console. It is important to note, however, that any data on the hard disk drive, including downloaded content and saved games, will be permanently erased during this recovery process. However, the drive will work as intended once again.

      Choose "Format Utility."

      Select "Yes" to confirm the operation.

      Select the icon for the PlayStation 3 hard disk drive. Select "Yes" to confirm the operation a second time. The PlayStation 3 hard disk drive will be formatted, and any issues resulting from incorrect, corrupt or obsolete system files will be corrected.
