How to Use PS3 EyeToy as a PC Camera & Mic

The PS3 version of the EyeToy, called the "PlayStation Eye," is a combined camera and microphone device used for applications such as video chat, content creation as well as use in applicable games available on the PlayStation 3. While simply plugging the device's USB cable into a computer will not allow you to use the camera or microphone on a PC, there are drivers available that once installed, support the use of the PlayStation Eye on a PC.

Instructions

    • 1

Leave the PlayStation Eye unplugged from your computer for the time being. Navigate to a website that offers a driver that allows the camera and microphone to be used on a computer. Download the driver, saving it in "My Documents" folder on your PC.

    • 2

Open the "My Documents" folder and double-click the installation file that downloaded to that location. Follow the on-screen instructions and the driver will install itself onto your computer. Once the driver is installed it can be accessed under the "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" settings within your PC's device manager.

Restart your computer for the driver to take effect. Insert the PlayStation Eye into an available USB slot on your computer. When using any programs that allow the use of video or microphone recording as well as chat functions such as Skype, the PlayStation Eye will be recognized as an available webcam.
