How to Update a PS3 Blu-Ray

The Sony PlayStation 3 comes with a built-in blu-ray player for viewing blu-ray movies. Since the blu-ray platform is constantly being improved, it is important to periodically update the blu-ray player's firmware. The most recent firmware update includes support for 3D blu-ray playback. The update is packaged as a "System Update" and includes non-blu-ray features such as online storage capabilities and additional power saving settings.

     Make sure the PS3 is connected to the Internet.

     Turn on the PS3. Navigate to "Settings" and "System Update" in the home menu. Press "X" on the controller or remote.

     Select "Update via Internet" and press the "X" button again.

     Press "X" again when the new software version is found. Wait as the system downloads and installs the update. The PS3 will automatically restart when finished.
