Fan Test
Ever notice how dirty fans can get on a PS3? Think about all the dust that will get trapped inside if the system is in constant use. To put the PS3 into fan test mode, allowing you to clean out the inside, turn the power off, then hold down the Eject button and turn the power back on. However, this will not work for the PS3 Slim, because it cannot be powered down as long as it is plugged in and does not have a power switch.
Service Mode
The PlayStation 3 can run programs from a USB drive, and can accept firmware code by reflashing the firmware chip if you put it into a "Service Mode." When in this mode, the PlayStation 3 will display a red rectangle saying, "PlayStation 3. Factory/Service Mode." To start the PS3 in service mode, turn the system off, and while having a special "JIG" plugged into the USB port, press eject right after pressing the power button. The PS3 will boot up in Service Mode.
Play Any Game
PlayStation 3 games are no region coded, as of 2011. This means that you can play any game from any country on the same system without needing an adapter. PS2 and PS1 games, however, are region coded, so you wont be able to play any older foreign games.
HD
The PlayStation 3 can be used as part of a home entertainment system. It can play older DVDs, making them look better using upscaling to near high-definition quality. To do this, while watching a DVD, press the Triangle button and select "AV Settings," you will find options for frame, block, and mosquito noise reduction, as well as the option for upscaling DVD content.
