How to Get Sony PlayStation 3 to Play AVI Movies

In addition to playing video games, the PlayStation 3 also allows you to listen to music and watch videos. These videos come in a variety of formats. Many electronic devices struggle to play AVI files, which are not compatible due to a missing codec or program. However, this is one type of file that the PS3 successfully plays.

  Locate the USB slot on your computer. The slot can be found on the side of a laptop or on the rear tower unit of a computer

  Turn the USB so that the logo is facing in the upward direction and insert it into the USB slot. Press it firmly so that it is securely connected.

  Locate the AVI file on your computer. Press down on the AVI file icon with your left-hand mouse button and drag it into the USB file.

  Remove the USB from your computer and insert it into your PS£. Turn on your PS3 and wait for the dashboard to load up.

  Press right on the controller until you come to the "Videos" tab and then move the highlighter on to "USB Device." Press the "Triangle" button on your controller to bring up a side menu.

  Move the highlighter onto the "Display All" option. Press "X" on your controller. Move the highlighter onto your AVI file and press the "X" button on your controller to play the file.
