How to Connect a PS3 to a Computer Media Player Wirelessly

The PS3 is a digital living network alliance-enabled device that can connect to another DLNA device, such as your computer, to share media including videos, music and photos. Windows Media Player has a built-in Media Server feature that can be used to stream media to the PS3 via your wireless home network. The PS3 supports a wide range of media formats including WMV, MP4, MPEG, GIF, BMP, WMA and MP3.

  1. Enable Media Server on PS3

      Scroll to the "Settings" section on the PS3 main menu.

      Select "Network Settings."

      Scroll down to Media Server Connection, press the "X" button and select "Enable."

      Open Windows Media Player. Click the arrow on the "Stream" button. Click "Turn on media streaming with [your wireless network name]."

      Click "More Streaming Options." Click the drop-down menu and select "All Networks."

      Click the drop-down menu to the right of Unknown Device, which is the PS3, and click "Allowed." Click "OK."

      Scroll to the section on the PS3 main menu that represents the kind of content you want to watch or listen to, such as video or music.

      Select "Search for Media Servers." The name of your wireless network will appear. A list of all the files in the Windows Media Player Library will be displayed.

      Highlight the file you want to open and press the "X" button.
