Instructions
Connect your audio cable between your PlayStation 3 and surround sound receiver. The PlayStation 3 accepts the included audio/video cable (2.0 channels of sound), a digital optical audio cable (5.1 channels) or an HDMI cable (7.1 channels). Plug the cable into the output port on the rear of the PS3 console and the input port of your stereo receiver.
Turn on your PlayStation 3.
Choose "Settings" and "Sound Settings."
Select "Audio Output Settings."
Choose the name on screen representing the type of cable you connected to your console and stereo. For example, if you used an HDMI cable, select "HDMI."
Select all of the audio output formats your stereo receiver is capable of playing. The list of compatible audio output formats will be listed in your stereo receiver's manual. Once this selection is made, the PlayStation 3 will be set up properly for surround sound.
