How to Transfer the PS3 System Update From Your PC to PS3

Downloading the Update

  Connect the USB device to the computer.

  Open the USB disk volume by double-clicking on the "My Computer" icon on the desktop and double-clicking the USB icon.

  Right-click within the USB window and select "New" and "Folder" from the menu.

  Type "PS3" without the quotation marks and press the enter key.

  Double-click the newly-created PS3 folder and right-click to select "New" and "Folder" to create another folder.

  Type "UPDATE" without the quotation marks and press enter.

  Download the latest system update from the PlayStation System Software Updates support page. If prompted for a save-to location, select the UPDATE folder on the removable USB device. If not prompted for a location, drag the "PS3UPDAT.PUP" file to the UPDATE folder.

  Disconnect the USB device from the computer.

Installing the Update

  Turn on the PS3 console and log into your user account.

  Connect the USB device to one of the PS3's USB ports.

  Select "Settings" from the PS3 home screen, and then select "System Update" from the submenu. Press the "X" button to bring up the System Update screen.

  Select "Update via Storage Media" from the menu and press the "X" button. The PS3 will search connected USB devices for the file and an update screen will appear.

  Press the "X" button to confirm the update.
