How to Run a PlayStation 3 Through a Dial-Up Modem

If you live in a part of the country where broadband Internet connections are rare or not yet established, the only way you may be able to connect to the PlayStation Network is through a dial-up connection. Although the connection is slower than broadband or DSL, dial-up will suffice in playing online multiplayer games. In order to connect to the PlayStation Network, you must facilitate your dial-up modem through your computer's "Internet Connection Sharing" program.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect one of the Ethernet cables from the dial-up modem to your computer, and the other from your computer to the Ethernet port on your PlayStation 3 console.

    • 2

Power on the PlayStation 3 console and launch your computer's dial-up connection. Although an Internet connection will begin to transfer data from your computer to your PS3, you will need to configure the Internet settings on your PlayStation 3 before the connection is complete.

    • 3

Scroll over to the "Network Settings" icon on your PlayStation main menu. Scroll down to the "Settings" menu and select the "Internet Connection Settings" option.

    • 4

Press the "X" button on your PlayStation controller as the "Enter" command. Select the "Wired Connection" option on the next page and wait for the console to detect the dial-up connection. Once it has detected the connection coming from your computer, it will take you back to the PlayStation main menu.
