How to Make a PSN Account on PS3

The PlayStation Network is a free multiplayer gaming and digital distribution service that allows users to play PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable games online. Users can also download videos, demos and more from the service. PlayStation Network accounts are required to play games online and download content. PlayStation 3 users can create a PlayStation Network account directly from their console. A PlayStation Network user name is separate from a PlayStation 3 local user name.

Instructions

    • 1

Select "Users" and then "Create New User."

    • 2

Enter a user name, and select "OK." The profile name can be up to 16 characters and does not have to be unique as this is a local name. Your Online ID will be a different user name.

    • 3

Select the newly created user name under "Users," and press "X" to sign in.

    • 4

Select "PlayStation Network," and select "Sign Up For PlayStation Network."

    • 5

      Select "Create a New Account."

    • 6

Follow the on-screen prompts. Enter your country, date of birth, desired online ID, email address, password and home address. Your Online ID is a unique publicly displayed user name of up to 16 characters that will be used in multiplayer games. This is separate from your local profile name. You will be prompted to choose a name, and then the system will verify that no others have the same name. Select "Continue" to navigate through each page.

    • 7

Verify all of the information you entered, and select "Edit" beside any information that needs to be fixed. Select "Confirm" to finalize the creation of your account.

    • 8

Select "PlayStation Network" and then "Sign in." Enter your email address and password to connect.
