How to Access a Flash Drive Plugged Into a PS3

The Sony PlayStation 3, or PS3 for short, has a memory expansion slot for a USB-compatible flash memory drive used to access photos, music and other files with the console's navigation system. This system, called the XrossMediaBar allows users to access games, settings and USB devices. Once a flash drive is connected to a PS3 the game system will detect it automatically -- unless the flash drive has proprietary software that must be installed first. Files can only be seen from the appropriate menu. For example, you must be in the photo section to see photos on the flash drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert a USB-compatible flash drive containing the photos you'd like to view in the PS3's USB port.

    • 2

Go to the category that matches the file you are trying to access on the flash drive.

    • 3

Select the "USB" icon and press the "triangle" button.

    • 4

Highlight "Display All" and press the "X" button. A list of folders and files will be displayed.

    • 5

Highlight the file and press the "X" button to open a folder, or to play or view a file.

    • 6

Press the "triangle" button and hold it down, and select "Delete" or "Copy" to perform the selected action.
