How to Put Data From Your PlayStation 3 on a Flash Drive

Unlike its predecessor, the Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3) features a variety of storage options. Players are not limited to memory cards, which are not compatible with PCs and other electronic devices. Instead, the PS3 features a built-in memory card reader and USB ports that make it possible for players to move data to and from their consoles. By using the backup utilities and a flash drive, players can create copies of game saves for safe storage.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert a flash drive or memory card into the front of your console. You can back up your PS3 data to an external hard drive, SD Memory Card, Sony Memorystick, CompactFlash storage or any other USB storage device.

    • 2

Scroll to the "Games" tab on the Xross Media Bar (XMB). Choose the "Game Saves" option, then hit "X." Choose the game data you want to back up. Hit "Triangle" and choose "Copy."

    • 3

Back up multiple game saves, as well as photos and videos, by using the "Backup Utility" feature.

    • 4

Scroll to the "Settings" tab on the XMB, then choose "System Settings." From the "System Settings" menu, choose "Backup Utility."

    • 5

Read the system warning messages. These messages warn that the backup will not save any trophy information. Click "X" to skip the messages.

    • 6

Select your backup device from the list of storage devices. Click "X" to confirm your device selection and begin the backup process. This can take several minutes, depending on the amount of data stored on your console.
