How to Download Music Videos to a PlayStation 3

Downloading content to a PlayStation 3 can expand the use of your gaming console to a viewing platform, much like how DVD players are being used. Whether you download music videos, movies, music or any other type of audio-video media to your PS3, the steps remain fairly the same. Playing music videos on your PlayStation 3 upgrades the video quality output to your television or monitor so it is like getting a free high-definition music video even if you just downloaded a regular version.

Instructions

Visit the website via your PlayStation 3 unit where the video you want to download is located. You need an Internet connection to do this, but once you are in the website, look for the download button and select it. Your PlayStation will prompt you to specify the location where you want the downloaded file to be stored. The options are an external memory stick, separate hard drive or the unit's internal memory. The download should continue until done as long as you have enough space on the selected location. Confirm afterward that the files are in the desired location. We'll look at the memory stick and separate hard drive options and see how they can also be transferred to the internal hard drive.

Use a memory stick. If you have downloaded a music video from your desktop or laptop computer, save it to a memory stick and transfer the file to your PS3. Hook up the memory stick to the PS3 and wait for it to be detected by the unit. Go to the "Video" folder of the PS3, press the triangle button to "show all" files, and search for the music video file that you want to play. You can choose to just play the file or copy it to the internal memory of your PS3.

Use an external hard drive. Save the music video file that you want from your desktop or laptop computer and into an external hard drive. This is the recommended approach if you are transferring a lot of music videos or the videos are huge in size. Hook up the external hard drive to your PS3, go to the "Video" section in the XMB or Cross Media Bar and select the external hard drive to access your files. From here, you can choose to play the files directly or as in the previous step, copy them to the internal memory of the PS3.

Download a variety of other files. The steps mentioned above are also applicable for other file types that you want to download or transfer to your PS3. MP3's, images and even games can be transferred in this manner, either via the browser, memory stick or the external hard drive.
