How to Get Firmware for PS3

The PlayStation 3 was released in the United States in 2006. Over the last few years, the PlayStation 3 has seen many firmware upgrades. These upgrades offer new features, improvements on existing features and security fixes. To upgrade your PlayStation 3 to the newest Firmware, all that is required is an Internet connection. The newest firmware is required to access the PlayStation Network and to play PlayStation 3 games online, as well.

      Turn on your PlayStation 3.

      Navigate to the "Settings" menu.

      Select "System Update."

      Select "Update Via Internet."

      Select "OK."

      Select "I Accept."

      Push the directional pad to the right through each screen. These screens detail what improvements are being made with the firmware you are about to download.

      Select "Start" to begin the Firmware update. Once the update is downloaded, the PlayStation 3 will automatically restart. Upon restarting, the new firmware will be installed automatically, at which point the PS3 will restart again and the update will be complete.
