PlayStation 3 Backwards Compatible PlayStation 1 Games

The Sony PlayStation 3 has backwards compatibility with several PlayStation 1 games, meaning that you can play these PS1 games using your PS3 console. Some games have full functionality, while others can only be played in certain game modes. Sony has released software upgrades to enhance backwards compatibility, so you can now play some PS1 games that were previously not playable on the PS3.
  1. "Ace Combat 2"

    • "Ace Combat 2" is a flight-simulation game developed by Namco in 1995. It focuses on the point of view of a pilot performing combat military operations. You play as part of a mercenary tactic group code-named Scarface that United Forces hires to quell a rebellion. The only issue with playing this game on the PS3 is that certain elements of the briefing cut scenes may stutter. This will not affect the actual gameplay.

    "Dynasty Warriors"

    • Since the release of the original "Dynasty Warriors" for the PS1, seven sequels have been developed for various console systems. The original "Dynasty Warriors" is a one-on-one fighting game, similar to "Mortal Kombat," "Virtual Fighter" or "Tekken." You may chose from 14 different characters and can face off one after another in tournament mode. Each character has a special move and weapons to chose from that can improve their fighting style. This game has full compatibility with the PS3.

    "Grand Theft Auto"

    • The Grand Theft Auto series is a sandbox series, meaning that the player is immersed in an open world and must chose their own missions and path through the game. The original "Grand Theft Auto" is played from an overhead view of the main character. As you meet new characters, you will be assigned new missions that will earn you money. You can use the money to buy new guns and equipment. This game has full compatibility with the PS3.

    "Chrono Cross"

    • "Chrono Cross" is the sequel to the Super Nintendo game "Chrono Trigger." The game is classified as a role-playing game, or RPG, although it does feature several variations on a standard RPG. Players control the game's protagonist Serge through parallel worlds as he seeks to uncover the mysteries of his past. Unlike a traditional RPG, the game does not have any random encounters. Players can see every enemy on the game's map. Players also have the option of running away from any battle, even with a boss. "Chrono Cross" has full compatibility with the PS3.
