Turn off both your TV and PlayStation 3. Connect one end of the HDMI cable into the port labeled "HDMI Out" on the back of the PlayStation 3 console. Both HDMI connectors are the same, so it doesn't matter which side you connect. The connector will only fit one way.
Plug the other HDMI connector into the port labeled "HDMI In" on your TV. If your TV is hanging on the wall, you may have to remove it to see the port. Many HDTVs have multiple HDMI In ports.
Turn on your PS3 console and the TV. You will need to select the correct external output on your TV to view the PlayStation 3 screen. You can either scroll through the list of external outputs or look in your TV's manual for the output that's paired with the HDMI In port.
Click the "Setting" button on the main PlayStation 3 screen. The button looks like a toolbox. Click "Display Settings." Move down to "Video Settings" and press "X" on the PS3 controller. Select "HDMI" and then choose the highest resolution supported by your TV, such as "1080p." You can find the maximum resolution on either the front or side of your TV or inside your TV's manual. After selecting the resolution, click "Save Settings."
