PS3 3.30 Firmware Features

Your Sony PlayStation 3 system software updates periodically if the system is connected to the Internet, and users can also update by downloading update files and transferring them to the game console using a USB stick or an external hard drive. System updates typically fix glitches or add support for new devices. The PS3 system firmware was updated to version 3.30 in April 2010, bringing several new features.
  1. New Trophy Sorting Methods

    • Gamers earn "trophies" for completing in-game goals, and trophies can be displayed on Facebook profiles that are connected to PlayStation Network accounts. Other gamers on the friends list can also browse the trophy list. The system software 3.30 update adds two new sorting methods to the trophy list: by title and by date earned.

    3D Game Support

    • As of April 2011, several 3D titles have been released, including "MotorStorm: 3D Rift" and "Crysis 2." Other titles, such as "WipEout HD" and "PAIN," have software updates that add a 3D mode to the game. With version 3.3 of the system software, the PS3 supports 3D games played on 3D stereoscopic displays.

    VAIO Support

    • System software 3.3 also adds Sony Vaio support. Owners of Vaio computers can access their PlayStation 3 consoles over the network and access any media files stored there. The Vaio keyboard and touchpad can also be used to control the PS3 console. More information on the Sony Vaio can be found on Sony's official website.

    New Digital Audio Output Settings

    • Two new audio output settings were added with the system update. Both are Bitstream audio formats that can be played back on home theater systems that support it.
