How to Repair a PS3 Replacement Drive Board

Like any type of gaming console or computer, a brain is needed to properly make everything work together. For the PS3, the drive board is its brain. There may come a time when it will not function properly. Usually, with gaming systems, this problem will occur because of hardware modifications and/or a bad system update caused by a loss of power or accidentally shutting off the system. Luckily, there is an easy fix that even a newbie to the video game world can do to remedy the situation.

Things You'll Need

  • Internet connection
  • Ethernet cord (if not connecting to the Internet via wireless)
  • Playstation 3 controller
  • Playstation 3 controller USB cable

  1. Troubleshooting

    • 1

      Turn on your PS3 by pressing the Playstation logo button in the middle of your controller.

      Navigate to the settings tab on the home screen with your controller.

      Select the first option titled "System Update" by pressing X on your controller.

      Select either via Internet or Storage Media option by pressing the X button on your controller. Only select storage media if you have the latest system update on a flash drive.

      Select "OK" to update your system to the latest version by pressing X on your controller.

      Select "Accept" to the user agreement and select "Start" so the update can download by pressing X on your controller.

      Press the Playstation logo on the controller when prompted so the installation can finish and connect the USB to the controller if prompted by the screen before pressing the Playstation logo.

      Remove the USB cable after the installation has completed and the system has restarted. This should fix the issue with the drive board, and the system will be back to normal.
