How to Get Past the PS3 DNS Error

A large variety of features on the PlayStation 3 require an Internet connection to use. Downloading firmware updates, music, movies and new games all require a working Internet connection. A DNS error, such as error 80710102, occurs when your PlayStation 3 and router are having difficulties connecting to each other due to an error in your DNS numbers. By reconfiguring these numbers, your DNS errors will be solved.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to the "Settings" menu on your PlayStation 3. Select "Network Settings."

    • 2

      Select "Internet Connection Settings."

    • 3

Select "Custom." Select your connection method. Select "Auto-Detect" followed by "Automatic" and "Do Not Set."

    • 4

      Select "Manual" for DNS settings.

    • 5

Enter either "208.67.222.222" or "208.67.220.220" as your DNS numbers. Both are equally effective.

    • 6

Select "Save Changes" to be returned to the main menu of your PlayStation 3. Connect to any online part of the PS3, such as the PlayStation Store. If you are able to successfully connect to any online portion of the PS3, this will confirm that the changes have been effective.
