The PlayStation 3 (PS3) uses a Blu-ray lens to read Blu-ray movies and Blu-ray video game discs. Dust can accumulate on the lens overtime. This can cause black screens and your movies and games to not load properly. You can fix this common problem in a few minutes by using a Blu-ray lens cleaner disc.

  Purchase a Blu-ray lens cleaner disc from a video game store or electronics store. You can also order it online.

  Turn on your PlayStation 3 video game console and your television set.

  Insert the Blu-ray lens cleaner into the PS3 drive. Follow the interactive on-screen instructions. The cleaning process takes about a minute. Remove the lens cleaning disc when instructed to do so.

  Insert a Blu-ray movie disc or PS3 game in the drive to test the performance of your PlayStation. If you still get a disc-read error or a black screen, the problem might be a faulty lens. Take your unit to an authorized Sony repair center to get it checked.
