How to Repair a PlayStation 3 Board

The central control board inside a Sony PlayStation 3 home video game operates similarly to a computer motherboard. It allows the other PlayStation 3 hardware components to communicate with each other. Incorrectly adjusting your console's settings or an improper firmware update could lead to problems with your PlayStation 3 board. These are two issues that can be repaired using the "Restore" option.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your PlayStation 3 (if it isn't already on).

    • 2

Open the "Settings" menu. The "Settings" menu is the second option on the main menu that appears every time you turn on your PlayStation 3. With the word "Settings" highlighted, use the "X" controller button to open the menu.

    • 3

Select "System Settings." This is at the bottom of the "Settings" menu on screen. With the word "System Settings" highlighted, use the "X" controller button to open the menu.

    • 4

Choose the "Restore PS3 System" option. Confirm that you want to perform this operation by selecting "Yes" from the prompt with the "X" controller button. Your PlayStation 3 system is restored, and the board inside your PlayStation 3 is repaired.
