How to Transfer RockBand Songs to RockBand 2 on the PS3

One of the biggest features that was announced before Rock Band 2's release in 2008 was that a feature would be included that allows players to import almost all of the Rock Band library into the new game (pushing the on-disc music selection to more than 150 songs without any downloadable content). Transferring your Rock Band songs to Rock Band 2 on the PS3 takes a few minutes and is a very simple process.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on the PlayStation 3 and navigate to the PlayStation Network icon. Then highlight the PlayStation store icon and press X to enter the store.

    • 2

Select "Game Add-Ons from the PlayStation Store sidebar. Then select the first "Add-Ons" icon from the new page, and then scroll down until you see a "Rock Band" category. Press the X button. Be careful to select "Rock Band" and not any of its sequels, as this process will not work with the export functions of Rock Band 2, 3, Green Day or The Beatles: Rock Band.

Select "Song Export Key," and then press X. The cost of this download is $4.99 (as of January 2011) and will be deducted from your PlayStation Network account. If you do not have any currency in your PlayStation Network account, you will be prompted to add currency from either a PlayStation Network Points card or a credit card. Once the transaction has been made, the download begins automatically.

Insert the "Rock Band" disc after the download has completed and select "Export Songs" from the menu. A notification pops up once the operation has completed. The next time you insert the "Rock Band 2" disc, the songs from "Rock Band" appear in your track list.
