How to Expand the USB Ports on a PS3

For many PlayStation 3 owners, a common complaint about the console's design is its lack of available USB ports. The original design of the console contains only two USB ports at the front of the console and can be troublesome when multiple controllers need to be charged or a user is trying to hook up some extra peripheral devices, such as the new PlayStation Move accessory. Luckily, third-party accessories such as Nyko's Media Hub Slim have been created that can expand the existing two USB ports to four ports, as well as adding some interesting extra functionality without voiding the manufacturer's warranty.

Turn off the power to your PS3 console. Unplug the power cord from the back of the console and remove any connected devices in your console's USB ports.

Plug in the Media Hub Slim USB expander into your PS3's USB ports. Align the two USB cable ends with the two slots at the front of your console and simply slide the device into the front ports. Your Media Hub Slim device should fit snugly beneath the overhanging portion of the front of the console's chassis.

Connect a controller into a USB port of the Media Hub Slim device to ensure that the device is connected correctly and can detect your USB cable. Test the functionality of the SD card reader by inserting a memory card into the specified card reader slot at the front of the device. The card should appear within the Photo menu, where you can browse the contents of your SD memory card.
