How to Check the Fan on the PlayStation 3

The early generations of the PlayStation 3 that Sony released were the 40 gigabyte versions. These early versions had slightly different internal components compared with the latter versions. Due to these slight differences, the early PlayStation 3's have the ability to run the cooling fan at high speeds for about half a minute. This fan test can be used to troubleshoot fan problems while expelling dust from the console. This can all be done in only a few simple steps and requires no tools.
