How to Troubleshoot a Red Flashing Light on My PlayStation 3

On the top of your PlayStation 3 controller is a series of indicator lights. When in use, only one of these lights should be on, and it should be a solid red color. If these red lights begin to flash, this is an indication of one of two problems. Either you've walked too far away from your console and the controller can't find it, or the controller's internal battery needs to be recharged.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug one end of your PlayStation 3 controller's USB cable into either of the two USB inputs on the front of the console.

    • 2

Plug the other end of the PlayStation 3 controller's USB cable into the Micro USB input on the top of the controller.

    • 3

Press the "PS" button in the direct center of the controller. If the lights were flashing on the controller because its battery was dying, the battery will begin to charge, and the flashing lights will stop. If the lights were flashing because you had moved too far away from the console, you will now be within 3 feet of the console and the flashing lights will stop.
