How to Switch PS3 Out of HDMI Mode

The Sony PlayStation 3 is plugged in to the wall, hooked up to the television and appears to be set up properly, but the screen remains blank. Typically, a PS3 runs through an HDMI cable; if it is running through a three-pronged yellow, red and white RCA cable, the PS3 and the TV may not communicate. There is a quick and simple way to get them talking like old friends.

Television with RCA port
PlayStation AV-to-RCA cable

Instructions

  Plug the PlayStation 3 into the wall using the AC adapter. The red light over the power button on the PS3 should illuminate, indicating that the device is in standby mode.

  Plug the PlayStation compatible AV-to-RCA cable into the PS3 using the rectangular end.

  Plug the PlayStation compatible AV-to-RCA cable into the television, yellow to yellow, red to red and white to white.

  Hold the power button in for at least five seconds until the PlayStation beeps twice. The PS3 should now be in RCA mode and work properly.
