How to Format Passport for PS3 Backup

The Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) lets you back up your data on a Universal Serial Bus (USB) hard disk. You can use most USB hard disks including the Western Digital Passport drive. But before your Passport hard disk will work on your PS3 data, you must format it to the FAT32 file system, a standard from the NTFS (New Technology File System).

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your Western Digital Passport drive on your computer. Plug-in the USB cable and power cable to connect it.

    • 2

Open "My Computer" on your computer. Click on "Start" then "Computer."

    • 3

Right-click on your Western Digital Passport drive and click "Format."

    • 4

Select "FAT32" in the "File system" menu.

    • 5

Click "Start." Wait till the progress bar is done. This will format your Western Digital Passport into FAT32. You can now use your Passport on your PS3 to backup your data.
