Information on How to Change the Password on a PlayStation 3

The Sony PlayStation 3 uses two separate password systems. The system password is used when accessing content with parental control restrictions, changing parental control settings, and attempting to access the Internet with the "Internet Browser Start Control" setting in place. The PlayStation Network password is used when accessing online multiplayer, the PlayStation Store, and other PlayStation Network features. Change your passwords from the PS3 settings menu.

Instructions

  1. Changing the System Password

      Turn on your PlayStation 3. Scroll right on the XMB Menu to select "Settings." Scroll down to "Security Settings" and press "X" on your controller.

      Select "Change Password" and press "X."

      Enter your four-digit password. By default, it is set to "0000."

      Enter a new four-digit password. Enter it a second time to confirm the change.

    Changing the PlayStation Network Password

      Turn on your PlayStation 3. Scroll right on the XMB menu and select "PlayStation Network." Scroll down to select "Account Management" and press "X" on your controller.

      Scroll down to "Password" and press "X." Enter your current password using the onscreen keyboard and select "Continue."

      Enter a new password of your choice, then enter it a second time to confirm. Select "Confirm" and press "X."

      Sign into the PlayStation Network with your new password.
