Instructions
Turn on your Sony PlayStation 3.
Select "Settings."
Choose "Sound Settings."
Open the "Audio Output Settings" menu. Use the window that appears to specify the type of audio cable you are using to connect your PS3 to your TV or stereo receiver. If you're using HDMI, for example, select "HDMI" from this screen.
Specify the type of Linear PCM audio that you want. The current version of the PS3's firmware supports seven different types of Linear PCM. Choose the type that matches your speaker setup. For example, if you have full surround sound in your home, choose the "5.1" option. If your PS3 is connected to your TV directly, choose one of the "2.0" options. Your PlayStation 3 will now successfully output Linear PCM audio.
