PS3 Wireless Controller Not Working

The Sony PlayStation 3, or PS3, comes with one packaged wireless controller upon purchase, although you can add more later. This wireless controller initially connects to the PS3 with a USB data cable, which not only syncs the controller up with the video game system, but also powers on the equipment. If your PS3 wireless controller is not working properly, you need to troubleshoot the equipment.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the USB data cable into one of the two USB ports on the PS3, then insert the opposite end of the cable into the USB port on the top of the controller. Do this before powering up the PlayStation 3 system.

    • 2

Power on the PS3 with the controller connected to the USB cable. The PS3 automatically detects the controller.

    • 3

Press the "PS" button in the middle of the controller if you have the equipment disconnected from the PlayStation after it is turned on. If you do not press the button, the system is unable to detect the controller.

If you have left the PS3 controller disconnected from the USB cable when powering up the PS3 system, it is still possible to make sure the controller connects to the gaming system. As long as the battery is charged on the PS3, you just need to press the "PS" button. This sends a wireless signal to the gaming system, informing it of the wireless connection.

Connect the PS3 controller to the USB cable if the system does not detect the equipment, even after pressing the PS button. This means the controller's battery is dead. Hooking it up to the USB cable charges the controller. Leave the PS3 on to fully charge the controller's battery.
