How to Create Skins for PlayStation 3

Not all PlayStation 3 consoles have to look the same. Using a custom skin is one way to make sure that your PS3 gaming system is unlike any other. Skins are large decals or stickers that cover the entire surface of the system, making it possible to place absolutely anything across the console. There are two ways to create a custom skin: either design, print and fit a skin yourself, or use a service that will print and deliver the skin for you. Either way, the skin is completely customizable.

Things You'll Need

A graphic design program such as Photoshop, Paint or GIMP
Decal paper
A printer
Ruler
Scissors or an X-acto knife

Creating at Home

  Design an image for the PS3 skin. This can be done on any graphic design program or, for more traditional artists, by hand and then scanned into the computer.

  Measure the dimension of each area you wish the skin to cover. Consider if you want the skin to run continuously over the surface or only in certain sections. Also consider the limitations of your printer and if it is capable of handing a skin larger than normal size.

  Fit the image to the dimensions of the PS3. Make sure that the proportions of the image still look right, otherwise the it may be stretched or contracted in unpleasing ways.

  Print the image onto decal paper. Give the image time to dry.

  Cut the decal to fit the surface of the PS3 using scissors, X-acto knife or other cutting utensil. Make sure that all the ink is dry before peeling the sticker away from the backing paper and placing it on the PS3. Line up the image before securing it in place.
Print Service

  Visit custom PS3 skin printers such as Left Skins or Unique Skins.

  Select the Sony PlayStation 3 from the items listed on the size. Click "Design now" or "Customize it" to enter the service's drawing board.

  Design the skin using the drawing board available through the service. It is possible to upload images, draft text, and place them wherever you want them.

  Click "Add to Cart" when satisfied with the design. Continue through the check out procedure to complete the purchase. The skin will be printed and delivered.
