How to Use a PlayStation 3 Controller on Mame

MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) is a computer program that simulates arcade games. It uses the keyboard as its controller and specific keys to emulate the controllers for the arcade games. There are certain action-based arcade games that can benefit from the use of a game console controller for making quick punches or rapid firing. You can connect the PlayStation 3 controller to the computer for use with MAME and have more precision with game playing.

  Turn off the PlayStation 3. Attach the PlayStation 3 controller to the PC with the mini USB cable.

  Download the "PS3 Controller Drivers" onto the computer (see link in Resources). Right-click the download file to extract it.

  Double-click the "libusb-win32-filter-bin-0.1.10.1" file. Click "Next" and read the license terms. Click "Accept" if you agree. Press "Next" three time to get through the next three pages.

  Click "Install." Verify that "PLAYSTATION(R)3 Controller" is displayed on the menu that appears. Wait for the installation to complete.

  Launch MAME. Select a game from the menu and press the "Tab" key on the keyboard. This will launch another menu.

  Select "Input (General)" and press "Enter." Select "Player 1 Controls" and press "Enter." Designate the keys you will use on the keyboard and the button assigned to the PlayStation 3 controller. Press the button on the PlayStation 3 controller.
