Instructions
Disable the PS3's media server connection, which can cause problems with Internet connectivity. Go to "Settings" and then "Network Settings." Select "Media Server Connection" and then press the "X" button. Choose the "Disable" option and press "X" again.
Change your router settings if you experience intermittent connection problems, meaning you can usually connect for a few minutes before you experience an interruption. Enter your router software and set it to "Keep Alive" mode. Make sure it is not configured to only connect on demand.
Place your console closer to the router to enhance the signal and move any objects out of the way that could interfere with the signal. This can include microwaves, cordless phones, audio equipment, other gaming consoles and florescent lighting.
Update your router and modem's firmware. Check your software or contact the manufacturer of your Internet devices to ensure you have the latest version.
Enter your console's Media Access Control address if your router requires it. Go to "Settings" and then "System Settings" from the home menu. Press the "X" button. Scroll down to "System Information" and press "X" again. Write down the numbers (including colons) of the MAC address and enter it in your router software.
Connect your PlayStation 3 to your router using a wired connection. Use an Ethernet cable between the console and router to bypass the wireless connection and any connectivity issues with this network.
