Things You'll Need
Instructions
Remove the five screws from the back of the controller. There is one screw in each handle, one in each shoulder and one near the center. Once the screws have been removed, place your finger at the base of the controller between the two analogue sticks, squeeze and remove the back from the controller.
Unplug the battery from the circuit board and remove the battery. Remove the white plastic battery tray. You may optionally remove the two white plastic pieces that held the battery tray in place, but they may be difficult to reattach.
Unscrew the two screws in each handle that secure the rumblers in place. Gently lift the rumblers out of the controller, being careful to not break the wires attaching them to the circuit board. If they are separated from the circuit board, they will need to be soldered back in place.
Remove the screw near the center of the circuit board. Depending on the specific model of the controller, it will be either black or silver.
Lift the L2 and R2 buttons so that they are out of the way of the circuit board. Remove the circuit board, rumbler and analogue stick assembly by carefully lifting them out of the controller. Once this is done, the analogue sticks can be slid out of the circuit board.
Remove the white touch pad from the controller. The L2 and R2 buttons are attached to the touch pad and will come out when it is removed. The touch pad itself can be further disassembled by peeling it away from its white plastic mounting. Do not misplace the small foam piece that connects the touch pad to its mounting as it is critical to the touch pad's operation.
Remove the black plastic piece that makes up the select, start and PS buttons by lifting it out of the controller. The L1 and R1 buttons will also be easy to remove at this point. You may also remove the small LED light bar if you wish to modify it, though you may find it easier just to leave it in place.
