Instructions
Verify that the music is in a compatible format. The PS3 can only play MP3, MP4, WAV, ATRAC3 and WMA formatted music files that are burned to a CD-R, CD-RW or Super Audio disc (Super Audio is a disc developed by Sony). To verify your file types, insert the disc into a computer's disc drive. Open any music player (e.g. Windows Media Player) and allow the player to list all songs on your disc. Look for the file format following the file name.
Try to play a different disc. If the second audio disc does play, the problem is your disc and not the PS3. The disc is either damaged or contains incompatible file formats.
Inspect the music CD for scratches and smudges. Clean the disc with a lint-free cloth made for cleaning discs. When cleaning, rub the cloth from the middle of the disc outward in a straight-line. Don't make circular movements. Reinsert the disc into the console's disc tray and see if it will play.
Restore the PS3 to its default settings. This will delete any user settings that you've currently saved on the console. Turn on the PS3 and select "Settings," and "System Settings." Click "Restore Default Settings." Scroll through the list of settings and press the "X" button on the remote to restore each setting. After the system is restored, the PS3's initial setup screen will appear. Follow the setup prompts and then reinsert your music disc to see if it works.
