How to Use Guitar Hero for the PS3 With Chords

In order to successfully complete a song in "Guitar Hero" for the PlayStation 3, you need to use the guitar-shaped controller to strum specific chords at specific times. The buttons on the controller are color-coded, which matches the color-codes of the notes you're supposed to play in the game. You just have to make sure you're pressing the buttons at specific times in order to successfully play the necessary chords.

Instructions

    • 1

Put your "Guitar Hero" game disc into your PS3 and allow its menu to load. Once it does, use the guitar-shaped controller to select a play mode (either "Single Player" or "Multi Player") and select a song. If you've never played "Guitar Hero" before or are uncomfortable with the controller to the point where you aren't sure how to properly play chords, you should select "Single Player." Once you choose a song, the main game screen will appear on your TV.

    • 2

Watch the falling notes on screen. You will notice that as each note moves from the top to the bottom of the screen, it passes over a long horizontal line when it reaches the bottom. This is the key to playing "Guitar Hero" successfully.

Press down on the colored button on your "Guitar Hero" controller at the same time that colored note meets the horizontal line at the bottom of the screen. At the same time, press down on the white button near the center of the guitar. This plays the appropriate chord for the song you're playing. For example, when the red colored note on screen gets to the long line, press down the red controller button and the white "guitar string" button to play the chord. Repeat this process as the green, blue, yellow and orange notes all fall on screen to finish your song.
