How to Sync Wireless PS3 Controller

If you've purchased a new Dual Shock 3 or Sixaxis controller for your PS3, you'll need to pair it with your console. This ensures a stable connection, less affected by interference from other wireless devices. However, the controllers have a memory, and if you wish to pair a used controller with a new console, you'll need to make it forget the previous connection.

Power on the console either using the power button on the front, or by holding down the PS button on your first controller. On the top edge of your main controller, you should be able to see a single red LED flashing beneath the number "1." this indicates that the controller has paired with the console as the primary controller. In any multiplayer games you start, this controller will always be assigned to "Player 1"

Connect a second controller via the USB cable. Plug the larger end into the port on the front of the console and the small connector into the top of the controller. Check that all four lights are flashing, indicating that the controller is charging. It's advisable to let the new controller charge for as long as is practically possible; its rechargeable battery will have a longer lifespan if it is fully charged to begin with.

Press the PS button on the second controller and the red LED under "2" should illuminate. This controller is now paired with your console. You can continue charging the controller and use it to play or disconnect the cable and use it wirelessly.
