How to Stream Music to the PlayStation 3

Besides playing games, the Sony PlayStation 3 is capable of streaming files from your computer. The gaming console can stream music, video and picture files through a shared wireless connection with your computer. All of this can be achieved using Windows Media Player, a standard multimedia program available on all Windows computers.

      Connect your computer and PlayStation 3 to the same wireless Internet connection.

      Start Windows Media Player on your computer. If you have music files that have not been added to the Media Player library, add them now. To add music files to the library select "File," then "Add to Library." A window will open allowing you to locate the music you wish to add, whether from a CD or a music file.

      Enable media sharing in the options menu of the Media Player. Select "tools," then "Options." In the Options menu choose "Library," then select "Configure Sharing." Checking the "Share My Media To" box will enable media file sharing.

      Choose your PS3 as the shared destination that will be named "Unknown Device." Select "Allow" to complete the process.

      Open the "Music" tab on your PlayStation 3 Media Bar. Choose your computer and select what music you wish to listen to.
