Things You'll Need
Instructions
Download FFDShow and install the utility on your computer (see Resources). Reboot the PC.
Download Haali Media Splitter and TVersity (See Resources). Install the programs on your computer. You do not need to restart after installing these two programs.
Open FFDShow, and then click "Settings." Click and enable the "Enable Subtitles" option. Enable the "Accept Embedded Subtitles," "Accept SSA, ASS, and ASS2 Subtitles (Experimental)," and "Decode Closed Captions" options. Click the "OK" button, and then close FFDShow.
Launch TVersity, then click "General/Media Sharing Device/PlayStation 3" on the menu bar. In the "Transcoder" window, click the "Always Transcode" option. Enable the "1280x720," "Optimize for Quality," and "Minimum Compression" options as well. Click the "OK" button. Close TVersity.
Browse to the "C:\Program Files (x86)\TVersity" folder on your PC. Scroll down to the "profiles.xml" file and right-click on it. Click "Open with," then "Notepad." Click "Edit/Find," then enter "Playstation" in the search box and click the "Find" button.
Change the parameters below the first instance of "Playstation" in the "profiles.xml" file. Change the "mpeg16" values in the text to "mpeg2." There are only two values you need to change: "video=video/mpeg16" and "online Video=video/mpeg16." Simply delete "16" and replace with "2." Save the file and close Notepad.
Click "Start," and then enter "Services.msc" in the search box. Press the "Enter" key. Scroll down through the list of services in the "Services" window until you reach the "TVersityMediaServer" entry. Double-click the "TVersityMediaServer" value to open a pop-up window.
Click the "Log On" tab. Change the "Login" account from "Local System" to an individual user account for Windows. Click the "Find Now" button, and then browse to the user account to use when streaming video from the PC to the PS3 (the account used to login to Windows when the PC starts up). Click the "OK" button.
Restart the TVersity application.
Connect the RJ-45 cable or wireless adapter to the Ethernet port on the PS3. Plug the RJ-45 cable into your router if not using a wireless connection. Power on the PlayStation 3, and wait for the unit to receive an IP address from the router.
Scroll to the "Video" tab on the main PS3 menu screen. Scroll to the "TVersity Video Server." Press the "X" button on the controller. Browse the list of videos on the PC, and press the "X" button to watch the selected video on the TV screen attached to the PS3.
