How to Play MP3s During a Game on the PS3

Over time, your PS3 game's default sound and music can grow tiresome. If this occurs, try loading your own MP3's music files to your console. The PS3 is a powerful all-purpose media playback device, allowing you to listen to your own music while playing games. In order to listen to your own tunes, you must rip your music CDs to the console. Afterward, you can use the console's built-in media menu to control playback.

Things You'll Need

  • MP3 CD or USB flash drive

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the MP3 CD into your PS3's disc drive or insert the external storage drive, such as a USB flash drive, into an available USB port.

    • 2

Locate and highlight the CD or storage device's listing in the cross-menu bar's "Music" section. If you are using an external media storage device, such as a flash drive, you must select the external device from the "Music" section and then locate and select the folder within the device storing your MP3s.

    • 3

Select "Import" if you are using a music CD, or select "Copy" if you are using an external drive. The MP3 files begin importing to the console.

    • 4

Go to the album, song or playlist in the cross-menu bar's "Music" section.

    • 5

Select a song to begin listening to the MP3.

    • 6

Load a PS3 game into your disc drive. The game will load and the music will continue playing so long as the game is compatible with personal music playback (see Tips).
