How to Install a Sony PS3

Unpacking your PS3 can be an overwhelming experience, with a mess of cables and instruction manuals. Installing your PS3, though, is about as simple as hooking up your DVD player to your television. The system comes with audio/video cables as well as a power cord. Determine what type of input your television supports to take full advantage of your PS3's high-definition capabilities.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the console near your television in a flat area with good ventilation. Try placing it on a hard surface, such as wood or your television, instead of your carpet, which can cause the console to overheat.

    • 2

Determine what types of audio/video inputs your television has by checking the inputs on the rear of the TV or by referring to your television owner's manual.

    • 3

Plug the audio/video cable's output into your PS3's multi-out plug-in, located on the back of the console.

    • 4

Plug the audio/video cable's input into your television.

    • 5

Insert the power adapter cable into your PS3's power output on the rear of the console.

    • 6

Plug the other end of the PS3's adapter cable into a wall outlet. This supplies power to the console.

    • 7

Plug the controller or controllers into the PS3.

    • 8

Turn on the console. The system's initial setup wizard starts up.

    • 9

Follow the prompts to set up the controllers, set the date and time and configure other basic settings.
