Turn your system upside down and find the production sticker. Write down the model number located on the sticker.
Determine the size of the hard drive in your PlayStation 3. Read your instruction manual.
Look for a model number that begins with CECHC" on 60-GB version. This version will play PS2 games through software emulation. If your 60GB model number begins with "CECHA," it has the actual PS2 hardware built into the system.
Search the start of the model number of a 80GB version for "CECHE." If your version has this number, it plays PS2 games through software emulation. If it does not, then it cannot play PS2 games.
