How to Make a PSX Memory Card

All versions of Sony's PlayStation 3 home video console are backwards compatible with PlayStation 1 (or PSX) video games. However, the PlayStation 3 itself does not physically support the old external memory cards used to save games on that system. Because of this, if you want to save your game progress while playing a PSX game you will have to create a virtual PSX memory card on your PlayStation 3 hard drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Sony PlayStation 3 and allow a few seconds for it to boot.

    • 2

      Select "Game."

    • 3

Choose "Memory Card Utility (PS / PS2)."

    • 4

Select the "Create" option for a Playstation 1 memory card. This will create a new, virtual PSX memory card on your PlayStation 3's hard drive. When you go to save a game in a PlayStation title that you're playing, the game will recognize this virtual memory card as if it were a physical memory card inserted into your old PSX console.
