How to Transfer Files to a PS3 Hard Drive

The PlayStation 3 gaming system comes equipped with an internal hard drive. The size of this hard drive differs depending on the model you bought, with some as low as 40 gigabytes and others as large as 120 gigabytes. Regardless, as long as you have space remaining on it you can move data to the PS3. This includes downloading game demos and extras, or storing media such as your photos and videos. You can use your computer to copy data to a USB drive, which can then be used to transfer the files to the PS3.

Instructions

Connect a removable storage device to your computer and copy to it any data such as photos, music, videos or PS3 downloads. Name a folder that you can easily recognize and organize all the files under this folder. Remove it once finished.

    • 2

Connect the removable storage device to the PS3 by plugging it into one of the storage media readers or USB slots on the front of the console. Only certain PS3 models can read the various memory card formats, but all can read USB connections.

Turn on the PS3 if not already on and wait for the main menu screen, or XMB menu, to load. Navigate to the category of the media you placed on the storage device. For instance, if you want to transfer photos then navigate to the Photo icon on the menu screen.

Scroll down under the menu until you see the storage device listed. Highlight the storage device and press the "triangle" button on the controller.
