How to Save Data on PlayStation 3

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) includes a built-in hard drive (which varies in capacity depending on which model you're using) that is used to save game data, downloaded content and any files transferred from other devices (such as flash drives). Internal memory cards can be created to save data from older PS1 and PS2 games.

Instructions

  1. Copying Files From Flash Drive

    • 1

Connect the USB flash drive to either USB port on the front of the PS3.

    • 2

Scroll to the section on the PS3 main menu that best represents the type of data you want to save to the PS3. For example, if you want to save a song, you'd scroll to the "Music" section.

    • 3

Press the "Triangle" button to bring up a list of all the files on the flash drive.

    • 4

Highlight the file you want to save, press the "Triangle" button and select "Copy."

    Creating Memory Card

    • 5

Scroll to the "Game" section on the PS3 main menu.

    • 6

      Select "Memory Card Utility (PS/PS2)."

    • 7

      Select "New Internal Memory Card."

    • 8

Select which type of memory card you want to create (PS1 or PS2).

    • 9

Enter a name for the memory card (optional), highlight "OK" and press the "X" button.

    • 10

Select "Slot 1" when asked to assign the memory card. The PS1 or PS2 games will know which slots to save data to.
